During an Extra Life stream on Mixer, Xbox boss Phil Spencer made a pretty radical statement when he talked about the games he enjoyed this year. One of those games was Control, the latest adventure from Remedy, and he said, “I thought Control was really good. It didn’t reach enough people, so I’m glad to see that it’s coming to Game Pass so hopefully more people will play it.” Game Pass users were overjoyed, but sadly Phil spoke a little too soon.
The claim was debunked by Remedy itself on Twitter:
It was probably just a misunderstanding by Spencer, but maybe he let something slip that he shouldn’t have. However, if the developer denies the statement, it’s pretty damning. Control did well in sales even though it didn’t break any records or shot up to number one, but it would have been nice if the game appeared on Game Pass especially since Remedy had such a good relationship with Microsoft.
We can never say never and hope that Control will eventually come to the service, but I won’t get my hopes up. Thanks for squashing my dreams, Phil.
