2019 has been a good year to be a fan of role-playing games. Sure it wasn’t completely packed to the point you battled to breathe, but that can be a good thing too. Nobody wants to feel oppressed or like they are being buried, but you want something that takes up your time. Yeah I know, it is a pretty tough line to ride, but we try. So what was the hotness this year?
Oh wow, this game took my breath away. Disco Elysium took the trappings and systems of a CRPG and stripped all the combat out, using it instead as a playground for one of the craziest, zany and funny detective adventures you will ever go on. You wake up in a wrecked room with no memory at all, everything stinking of booze and the motel you are in has a few colourful stories of your antics in the last few days and how you have totally done nothing in your murder investigation. Get ready for a world that looks a lot like ours, but it really couldn’t be stranger. Get ready to solve a case, act like an idiot, bum cash or lie and threaten your way through everything. Oh and have I mentioned parts of your psyche talk to you, and your tie has a lot to say as well?
