The Switch has become a haven for Indie titles. Nintendo, a company once so stingy with sharing their special platform with outsiders, now champions the smaller games almost like no one else. Yesterday, we got a great 20-minute Indie World video highlighting some of the plethora of indie titles heading to the Switch in 2020. There were around 16 games announced (and it is well worth checking out the full video below) however here are four games we’ve picked out to keep an eye on.
Sports Story – Mid 2020
Golf Story was a great little role-playing sports adventure video game mashup that stole our hearts in 2017. Now, Sidebar Games are back with a quirky sequel entitled Sports Story that seems to contain all we loved about the original, a little more tennis and even more wacky sports-RPG fun. Is that cricket I see?
Supermash – May 2020
A game that makes games? A rather confusing tagline for a what seems like a game generator where players get to choose between two genres and the game will create (or help you create) a new game which you can then share online. A slimmed-down version of Dreams? Well, we definitely need more information but seeing everything from a 2D-Mario-like platformer fused with something resembling the Sims games is worth keeping an eye on.
Liberated – 2020 (‘Coming soon’)
A black and white, cyberpunk, graphic-novel-like interactive action game is a mouthful. But man, did this game look different, beautiful and interesting!.
Axiom Verge 2 – Autumn 2020
The “oh and one more thing” moment came to us straight from Thomas Happ. And after some quick thanks to Nintendo and the Switch we got a first look at Axiom Verge 2. And from what we saw in the video – if you like the first game, you’re going to love what Happ has been cooking up for the last four years.
