With all the great games we receive every year, it is inevitable that some will also turn out to be a major letdown. It is not necessarily that these games are bad, but it didn’t turn out to be quite what we expected, or close to what was promised by the publishers and developers.
Hype is an ugly thing that can easily backfire if the game the developers have been marketing doesn’t live up to the very high demands and expectation of the video gaming community. Or, the game is just bad and not what we wanted at all.
Was there any doubt? Made by the legendary team behind the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age series as well as Knights of the Old Republic, Anthem was supposed to be the next biggest game that will enthral us all with an incredible world, story and characters. But instead we got nothing but a hollow husk of a game that released pretty much broken.
The news breaking of poor working conditions during the development of Anthem also didn’t help its cause and it soon became the laughing stock of the gaming world in 2019. Sure, Bioware have been trying to make improvements since launch, but it was too little too late.
