We’ve yet to see any official showcases of the PS5 and our only lead right now is the numerous pizza-cooker devkits that have been leaked by developers. The PS5’s controller still remains a mystery and Sony hasn’t given us a lot of information to go on except that it will be similar to how the DualShock 4 looks with some slight improvements.
The devkit controller was leaked through a picture posted on Reddit that initially just wanted to show off the devkit we’ve seen before by a cleaner at an undisclosed developer. The controller isn’t shown prominently, but we got to see some glimpses and ready your expectation dampeners because it’s not really much to look at:
As you can see, the controller looks almost exactly like a DualShock 4. The only immediate difference is the elevated touchpad. The controller is rumoured to have a lot of under-the-hood improvements such as better haptic feedback, longer triggers and no light bar, but because of the angle of the pictures we can’t really evaluate that.
So there’s our first albeit boring look at the new controller. It’s pretty clear that Sony isn’t going to rock the boat too much with the new controller because the DualShock 4 is very close to being just right and any changes would be minor outside of a complete redesign.
