Square Enix has tried their very best to support Final Fantasy XV until they couldn’t anymore. A slew of expansions, various fixes, frequent updates, numerous content drops and a bunch of spin-offs made the game last well past its lifespan. It has definitely slowed down, but it seems Square Enix isn’t quite done with the property just yet.
Final Fantasy XV is being turned into a mobile MMO created in Unreal Engine 4 with South Korean developer JSC Games and Chinese developer GAEA Mobile in charge of the game’s development. We have no further information about what the game will entail, but you can imagine the possibilities with something being touted as a mobile MMORPG.
Square Enix is rumoured to share more information during the first half of 2020 and China might receive the game first with a global launch following shortly after. I have several concerns about this mobile game because Square Enix doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to treating mobile gamers with respect. If it’s a polished MMO with a low frequency of microtransactions, this might be a hit, but that is a lot to hope for.
