Earlier this week the official PlayStation 5 logo was revealed. A few key features like a fast SSD, Haptic Triggers, 3D Audio, Ray-Tracing and an Ultra HD Blu-ray player were also mentioned, but much of the talk was around the logo. Of course, it looks exactly like everyone expected it to and so social media went a little wild. Unfortunately, the logo and the confirmed features continued to fuel the archaic PlayStation vs Xbox debate with each side’s adherents pointing to confusing naming, boring design and unconfirmed leaked specs as weapons to ‘one-up’ each other.
As with most things these days, it’s probably best to avoid the online banter particularly until things are officially confirmed – because the truth is there is still a lot we just don’t know. Case in point is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s president and CEO Jim Ryan’s recent comments in an interview with Business Insider Japan. As translated and featured in a Gematsu article, Ryan said:
There are still more unique elements for PlayStation 5 to come that separate it from previous consoles. The ‘bigger differences’ have yet to be announced.
It stands to reason that Xbox’s new console is probably in the same boat. We will likely be surprised by some (if not many) of their bigger features not yet disclosed too. It’s an exciting time and rather than pick a side – I’m just happy to see these two gaming juggernauts flex their creative muscles in the next few months and show us what our gaming future will soon look like.
