Rumour: The Wonderful 101 coming to Switch via Kickstarter?

Wii U ports on the Switch are a dime a dozen these days. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, we’ve often spoken about how few people had a Wii U and, despite its poor sales, how many good games were on the system. The Switch, on the other hand, is everywhere. It is Nintendo’s best selling systems in years and so it is also a perfect place for everyone to experience some of these great games. And it seems another may be on the way… however, this time it seems to be coming to the console in a slightly odd way.

The Wonderful 101 is an action-adventure title where the player takes control of a large group of superheroes. It was developed by Platinum Games and it became quite a fan favourite on the Wii U. Calls for it to come to the Switch quickly started popping up. Then, last week, the Platinum twitter account posted the picture above (arrows our own). The image is of Hideki Kamiya, director of the game in question. It may not seem like much, but as pointed out by this GameXplain video and highlighted by our arrows the time on the screen is conspicuously displaying as 1:01. Also, a Nintendo Switch is relatively prominently displayed to the right.

This on its own is not necessarily significant. However, the same GameExplain video goes on to relate (via an unnamed source) that the game is set to be resurrected not only on the Switch but perhaps also the PS4 and Xbox One. However, somewhat unexpectedly this will only occur if the ports can be financed through Kickstarter. This Eurogamer article not only backs up the video but also points out that the Kickstarter campaign may be being considered in a sort of ‘self-publishing’ attempt. Of course, this may also be a good way to gauge actual demand for the game in the form of real numbers (of backers).

Either way, it seems only a matter of time before we get some sort of confirmation and perhaps soon even the game itself.
