Get ready for post-apocalyptic Africa in February with Beautiful Desolation

Last year one of my favourite games involved exploring a post-apocalyptic world that was strange but slightly familiar, puzzling my way through a rich narrative as I worked to solve a murder and simultaneously work out who I was. Now this month I think I will be diving into a whole new world and puzzling things out again.

Much like Disco Elysium went off the well-trod pathways of US-based post-apocalypse settings, Beautiful Desolation is diving into some of the roots all around us here in South Africa. About three years after the Kickstarter, The Brotherhood is almost ready to let us explore the distant future where tribes try to flourish in the old, cold bones of civilisation.

The trailer shows some absolutely beautiful environments, completely dwarfing the scale of what was seen in Stasis and Cayne. My mouth waters at the idea of having so much space to explore and comb through carefully, looking for every scrap of lore while finding puzzle pieces to further the adventure.

Beautiful Desolation will be on GOG and Steam.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
