System Shock 3 left in limbo as senior staff depart studio

It appears that System Shock 3 might never happen. While no official announcement has been made, many of the development team have left OtherSide Entertainment, leaving the game like a crewless ship at sea.

OtherSide has been looking for a new publisher for the last year and while that search had some interested parties, some of the staff started to exit. In the last five months the writer and director, lead programmer, design director and more have left the developer, with one anonymous developer saying that the entire team is “everyone on the content side is no longer with the studio”.

“The only reason I’m posting is because I saw so much confusion about the state of the company and the project I thought some first person information would be welcome.”

“If Starbreeze hadn’t gone into crisis I think we would’ve delivered something interesting with some fresh and innovative gameplay, but a much smaller game than what people were expecting and inevitably disappointing for a sequel to such a beloved franchise.”

Former community manager Sam Luangkhot confirmed layoffs in December 2019, and linked to RPGCodex’s Kin Corn Karn.

It is terrible to see System Shock 3 disappear as a whimper, rather than going out with a bang.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
