Last year, a lot of people were surprised to learn that Insomniac Games wasn’t in fact a first party studio for Sony and that they had only been acquired, well, last year.
Not a lot was known about the details for the acquisition for the studio that made Marvel’s Spider-Man, the best selling game on PlayStation 4, but reports are indicating that Sony paid a whopping $229 million.
According to PushSquare, the figure came out during a SEC filing which indicated that the $229 million was paid out mostly in cash, and that the number could potentially change depending on circumstances before the end of the current financial year ending 31 March 2020. It sounds like a lot of money, but Insomniac Games is the guys making the aforementioned Marvel’s Spider-Man, the Ratchet & Clank series as well as the rather good, but underrated Resistance series. So they definitely know what they’re doing.
Whether the acquisition for Insomniac Games will be good value for Sony still remains to be seen, but the studio does have a good track record, so we’re sure we’ll be getting some stellar games from them for the next generation.
