The Baldur’s Gate 3 opening cinematic is full of tentacles and dragons

The opening cinematic of Baldur’s Gate 3 is here and one thing is certain: Larian Studios is not messing around.

The atmosphere created in this trailer is something astounding, with a close look at a Mindflayer going about a harvest. On a mighty flying ship covered in tentacles, the Illithid starts teleporting citizens in droves into pods where they will become implanted and undergo a horrific transformation.

It looks like the city is completely helpless until dragon riders appear through a portal and interfere. Then a game of chase starts, with dragons hurtling after the harvester ship as it teleports away.

Almost everything in this trailer is beautiful but slightly horrifying. The Mindflayer looks imposing and filled with unknowable evil, its ship is a thing to be marvelled at and the dragons are terrific, gouts of flame and countless teeth showing their destructive power.

It is a great way to open the action of the game, whenever it launches. The game will hit Steam Early Access sometime in 2020, otherwise we will just have to wait it out… and watch the cinematic again.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
