This year’s Games Developers Conference was supposed to happen this month, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event is being reimagined as GDC Summer, a three-day event that celebrated the “art, craft and business of game development.” The event is scheduled for August of this year.
Running from 4 to 6 August at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco, the event aims to blend the talks of a traditional GDC with a “freestyle” expo floor.
GDC’s organisers made the decision to postpone the event after several companies cancelled their appearances based on health concerns of staff. These companies included Sony, Microsoft and Epic. Since then, most gatherings of people in large groups and many stores have closed down in affected areas of the world to slow the infection rate of Covid-19.
Whether things will be back to normal in August or not remains to be seen, but a lot of people that had trouble with the last cancellation might not be looking too favourably on another event being announced.
