Valve is working on Artifact, essentially rebooting it two years after the CCG’s poor launch.
“First off, we wanted to say thanks for all of your tweets, emails and posts. The continued interest in Artifact has been encouraging, and we sincerely appreciate all of the feedback!”
“You might notice some changes soon – we are starting tests on our systems and infrastructure. This shouldn’t impact live Artifact but we wanted to give you a heads up.”
Artifact launched in November 2018 and hit Steam’s top five with a concurrent player-count of 60,000. But a month later, 80% of those players weren’t playing anymore. Now the game is being worked on again in earnest after Gabe Newell called it an “interesting failure” when talking to Edge Magazine.
Internally the game is being referred to as Artifact 2. Now to wait and see what changes and features will be introduced to try and maintain a player base.
The announcement says more news will happen after Half-Life: Alyx launches.
