During this troubling time, the generosity and support of others is more important than ever. We need to stand together against this common threat that has systematically taken over and influenced our daily lives. Sony understands the severity of the situation and are establishing a $100 million COVID-19 Global Relief Fund. It’s important to note that this is the Sony Corporation, the conglomerate that includes the PlayStation brand as well as their electronic and movie divisions.
In a press release for the fund, Sony said, “Through this fund, Sony will provide support in three areas: assistance for those individuals engaged in frontline medical and first responder efforts to fight the virus, support for children and educators who must now work remotely, and support for members of the creative community in the entertainment industry, which has been greatly impacted by the spread of the virus.”
$10 million will be pledged for medical support including the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO, Médecins Sans Frontières and United Nations Children’s Fund. It’s an extremely generous display of charity, especially since the fund focuses on the entertainment industry that has been crippled due to this global crisis.
The press release ends with a word from Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO of the Sony Corporation: “Sony extends its condolences to the families of those who have passed away as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and extends its sympathies to all those who have been impacted.”
“In order to overcome the unprecedented challenges that as a society we now face around the world, we will do all we can as a global company to support the individuals on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19, the children who are our future, and those who have been impacted in the creative community ”
The corporate world is often a ruthless landscape, but it’s so nice to see these companies coming together for the good of mankind as our will is being tested. Good on Sony for making such a generous contribution.
