It has been a long time since Beneath a Steel Sky, the point-and-click adventure in the 90s, but a bit longer and we can see how Revolution Software fares with a sequel almost 30 years later.
Beyond a Steel Sky continues the story of Robert Foster, who has arrived in Union City. The city looks like utopia, a complete change from the dystopian muck of the first game. But is it really that great, with the constant surveillance and shiny surfaces? Foster’s hunt for an abducted child forces him to scratch at the city’s veneer.
Revelution describes the game as a “dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller, which explores contemporary themes: social control, AI, and total surveillance”.
Beyond a Steel Sky was planned to launch last year, but it was delayed to the “first few months of 2020”. Revolution says it is busy with full-scale testing, so it is nearly time for a good old adventure.
