There was a time where having Chris Avellone involved in your product in some way was something that was punted, be it a Kickstarter project or a new game in the works. That changed this week, with Techland, Paradox Interactive and Gato Studio all ending their ties with writer Chris Avellone due to sexual assault allegations brought to light over the weekend.
Techland announced ending their cooperation with Avellone on Twitter. “We treat matters of sexual harassment and disrespect with utmost care, and have no tolerance for such behaviours – it applies to both our employees as well as external consultants, Chris among them.”
Techland says that this will not impact the timeline for releasing Dying Light 2.
Avellone was also working with Paradox Interactive on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Paradox stated to Gamasutra that the writer’s involvement was “brief” and that none of his work would be used int the game.
Gato Studio, which is currently working on The Waylanders has also cut ties and is “no longer associated” with the writer. “Gato Studio and The Waylanders team take matters of abusive and predatory behaviour very seriously, and we stand against the kind of behaviour that was alleged to have happened in the stories shared over the weekend.”
We have not included links to those who came forward, as at least one individual has reported receiving death threats after breaking silence on their treatment.
