Last night Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics showcased Marvel’s Avengers in a 30 minute livestream. This included a new story trailer and now we know that M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) is pulling the strings and will be a big threat in the game.
Dr George Tarleton or M.O.D.O.K. is the brain behind Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). AIM has established quite a foothold in the time that the Avengers have been disbanded, putting robots pretty much everywhere. The problem is, M.O.D.O.K. can control machines with his mind.
The game will feature hero specific missions as the story progresses, called Hero Missions. In one such mission Thor must defend the Helicarrier as hordes of robots attack. The mission is called Once An Avenger, and will showcase the hero’s strengths and moveset, letting you get to grips with how each hero is best used in a scrap.
Each hero has three Heroic Moves, which fall into Assault, Support and Ultimate. These moves are inspired by special moments and attacks from both comics and moves. Core skills can be augmented, and perks will allow for further customisation of your character to suit your playstyle.
On the multiplayer side, War Zones are missions built for up to four players, but they can also be completed with AI companions. In War Zones you will have to complete objectives and fight bosses for rewards.
During co-op special team finishers will help you defeat enemies quickly and with a nice flourish.
Marvel’s Avengers is due to release on 4 September for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
