Naughty Dog condemns abuse and harassment over The Last of Us Part 2

Naughty Dog issued a statement last night, condemning the harassment and threats directed towards team and cast of The Last of Us Part 2. The statement follows after developers and actors have been swarmed with abusive comments, ranging from racist swearing and name-calling through to threats of abuse and death.

“Although we welcome critical discussion, we condemn any form of harassment or threats directed towards our team and cast. Their safety is our top priority, but we must all work together to root out this type of behavior and maintain a constructive and compassionate discourse.”

Naughty Dog VP and writer of The Last of Us Part 2, Neil Druckmann, tweeted about the abuse levelled at Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby. “I hope these gamers get the mental help they so clearly need. Unfortunately this is now the cost of making popular entertainment that challenges conventions. Laura doesn’t deserve any of this.”

Druckmann also shared some of the abhorrent messages that he has been sent. “You can love or hate the game and share your thoughts about it. Unfortunately too many of the messages I’ve been getting are vile, hateful, & violent.”

Imagine not being able to differentiate between a voice actor and a character in a video game, and how the latter’s actions are not the actions of the former?

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
