Marvel’s Avengers was announced last year and ever since we’ve seen a steady feed of news on the upcoming anticipated title. The release of the game is close, and with that we’re getting an open beta in August, so everyone can check it out and Crystal Dynamics can do some tests.
According to IGN, the Beta will be available to PS4 players who pre-order first, with Xbox and PC pre-order customers getting it a week later. By the third week, everyone will be getting a chance to play it:
- 7 August: PlayStation pre-order beta access
- 14 August: Xbox and PC pre-order beta access, including PlayStation open beta
- 21 August: open beta on all platforms.
The beta is expected to show off a little bit of everything of the game:
We built the beta in such a way that you can experience most of things that you’ll be doing in the full game. That means playing a piece of the original single-player Avengers story campaign, fighting through co-op missions, experiencing hero and world progression, and exploring War Zones and DROP ZONES, a new kind of mission we’ll talk about in the upcoming War Table on July 29. This beta is meaty, but it’s only a small part of the finished game.Shaun Escayg, Creative Director at Crystal Dynamics
Personally, I’m not a massive fan of using a beta for incentivising pre-orders or showing it off on a specific platform first, but I suppose that is how business works. At least we’ll be able to try it out before the game comes out it see what it’s about.
