It feels strange to be in August and know pretty much nothing about this year’s Call of Duty game, but 2020 just isn’t a normal year on many yardsticks. We have a lot of rumours about it, like the possibility of it being called Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War. Now at least we know that Treyarch and Raven are working on it.
Activision confirmed this information in a earnings call for Q2 FY2020. “Activision will continue to build on its direct, digital relationship with this expanded community as it delivers the next premium release for Call of Duty, coming from Treyarch and Raven Software.”
The earnings call also mentions Warzone and the success of the free-to-play battle royale. In-game purchase profits were up more than double quarter-over-quarter, and almost five times higher than the same quarter last year.
Activision is looking into ways to leverage Warzone as a way to interact with the community. “Warzone in particular is not only a great game experience, it’s also a great platform for us to share new franchise news and information directly with our community, like we haven’t done before,” said Activision president Rob Kostich.
