Over 22 million people are in the cult of Tom Nook

Nintendo’s financial results for this year’s first quarter have some pretty impressive stats for us. Dodging past the parts where all the money is made and what that is quarter on quarter and all that, Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 22.4 million units in less than four months.

Currently some 61.4 million Switches have been sold, meaning close to 1 in 3 Switch owners has come to pray at Tom Nook’s leafy altar.

In fact, Animal Crossing has passed the lifetime sales of several Switch games, including Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently still ahead, with some 26.7 million sold.

Pokémon Sword and Shield, when counted together, sit at 18.2 million sold.

The more niche titles have done pretty well too. Exercise game Ring Fit Adventure has sold 4 million since launch, while Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics and Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition have sold 1 million units each.

So, how is your island doing?

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
