Control is a pretty slick game with some awesome physics-based action gameplay as well as an interesting narrative and world. It was pretty well received and so, it was only a matter of time before everything gets bundled together in the Control Ultimate Edition.
The Ultimate Edition includes all the content and DLC released for the game and will be available for both current and next-generation platforms as well as Epic Store and Steam. It is also the only version of Control that will get a free upgrade on the next-generation consoles when the hardware launches later in the year.
Yup, that’s right, even if you already own the game, with Season Pass, or all the DLC, it doesn’t matter, you will still have to buy the game again in order to play the game on your Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.
Considering that many developers, as well as the platform holders themselves (especially Microsoft) have been advocating the ability to play your current library of games on next-gen hardware, this is rather disappointing coming from Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games.
It is one thing to not offer an upgrade for your games, nobody is obliged to do that, but for a developer to lock the option behind a paywall is a massive kick in the teeth to those fans that have been supporting you from the start. One thing is certain though, it will be very interesting to see how the community, as well as the other developers and publishers, react to this sort of news.
