Tomorrow will be the official start of Gamescom 2020 with the whole event moving online this year. As you may have heard, there will actually be a special Gamescom Opening Night Live show hosted by Geoff Keighley streamed here and if you decide to tune in from 8 pm (SA Time) – you’ll apparently be presented with “world premiers, teasers, trailers and news”.
However, as revealed by Keighley’s on Twitter yesterday, one of the highlights will be a ‘longer uncut demo’ of the upcoming PS5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (developed by Insomniac games). Despite its cartoony style, during the PS5’s reveal even back in June – the new Ratchet and Clank game’s footage actually showed off some of the new console’s pretty impressive tech as Ratchet was shown seamlessly jumping through ‘rift portals’ into new dimensions and completely different worlds (notably with ‘no loading times’ like we were promised). And I can’t wait to see more of that.
As many have pointed out on social media, it is interesting that we will be getting more info on this Insomniac PS5 game (which does not yet have a release date) – and not the Spider-Man: Miles Morales ‘spinoff’ which is currently slated to be available at launch. However, I suspect that might have more to do with Sony wanting to keep that for one of their own upcoming shows, rather than a problem with the game’s development.
