Tawna ‘returns’ as final playable character in Crash 4

Remember Tawna, Crash’s girlfriend from the first game (and one or two other places since then)? Well, she’s back… sort of. As you can tell from the image above – she looks quite different. And one of the reason’s is – thanks to Crash Bandicoot 4‘s new cross-temporal/dimensional setting – this is Tawna from an alternate dimension. A universe in which (if we read a little in the subtext in the quick cutscene reveal) Crash and Coco may not have survived. And in this universe – Tawna has become the action hero adventurer you can see above.

All this new info was revealed yesterday during a PlayStation Underground episode where the team interviewed two Toys For Bob developers and gave us a nice chunk of gameplay for the new character – Tawna (alternate universe) Bandicoot. Her gameplay looks really cool – and quite different from Crash and Coco. Unlike the others – Tawna uses a grappling hook and can wall jump. As you can imagine – this will change up the way you tackle levels. However, if we understood the developers correctly during the interview it seems that the additional characters like Tawna (plus Cortex and Dingodile) will not be playable throughout the game. Instead, Crash and Coco take centre stage with the others jumping for specific story beats as well as for the previously announced Inverted Mode levels.

I’m loving the look of this game so far and can’t wait to get my hands on it and trying it out. If you’re still on the fence be sure to check out the full video below:
