Fall Guys, like any game with enough players, has attracted cheaters. Nobody likes playing with cheaters, so Mediatonic was working on a way to take them out of the normal game lobbies. However, that system is going to be replaced soon.
Mediatonic tweeted about Cheater Island and how they were testing their own anti-cheat protection system. The system, for a long time, was just detecting cheaters, without any ramifications. Once Mediatonic looked at the results to make sure it wasn’t flagging accounts incorrectly, the secret Cheater Island was launched, a “magical place where cheaters could happily compete against themselves for the Cheater’s Crown. Literally just a normal crown but tainted with a hollow feeling of guilt and regret”.
The issue with Cheater Island is that there weren’t enough players around at one time to cause it to load. A match requires 40 players to start, meaning some cheaters ended up stuck in the game’s matchmaking sequence. So if you know of anyone complaining about being stuck and falling forever, they might have just outed themselves as cheaters.
Last week a Cheater Island match was triggered, but several videos of it were posted online. While it might look hilarious to watch all the cheaters try to out-cheat one another, without context videos of Cheater Island make Fall Guys look like a cheater-blighted wasteland. As such, Mediatonic disabled Cheater Island.
The next patch of the game will implement Epic’s anti-cheat solution. “Our cheat detection system was good, but we hadn’t expected so many players… and we had no idea the lengths that some players would go to cheat”.
The update will also introduce Big Yeetus to the game, a massive hammer that can randomly appear in a level to cause mayhem. The full thread about cheaters is well worth a read:
