Sometimes leaving things up to community vote can be a good thing. While it might lead to things like Boaty McBoatFace if left unchecked, it can also result in a bit of fun.
Blizzard invited players to vote on the next free mount to be added to the game, along with five concepts: Wandering Ancient, Soaring Spelltome, Nerubian Swarmer, Curious Caterpillar, and Gooey Slimesaber. Shortly after that, fans started creating mockups of the various mounts, based on existing in-game creatures and non-combat pets, to completely new artworks by fans.
Now after some 160,000 votes in two weeks, the winner has been picked, with the Wandering Ancient taking around 87,000 votes.
“After two weeks and with hundreds of thousands of players internationally casting their votes, the popular vote for the mount you want to ride is: The Wandering Ancient! Our designers will now work on bringing this mount to life, and we’ll provide more information to share with you closer to its release.”
