Baldur’s Gate 3 is in early access right now, and as you can imagine, I spent a lot of time in the character creator trying to make an amazing character. There are so many options, with many hairstyles, cool tattoos and the game shows you skin, hair and eye colour for the race you are playing but lets you select from any colour if you prefer. It took me a while to get my Drow Warlock looking just right. Apparently, a lot of players aren’t digging into to this wonderful character creator and are instead making… the most generic looking dude imaginable.
Larian posted about a hotfix that made some changes to stealing from merchants as well as a pretty important item disappearing if one of your companions died. They also posted about the character creator.
“Before the fixes, let’s share something you’ve created yourselves (this is your own fault) through your choices in character creation. We took the most popular choices in character creation, and recreated this. We thought our analytics system wasn’t working! We checked. It is.”
“Congratulations, you’ve basically made the default Vault Dweller. What the hell guys. We gave you demon eyes, horns, and even tails. We are sorely disappointed. Go crazy. We worked hard on this!”
In a world of tieflings, elves, dwarves and halflings, the human seems so boring. But hey, maybe people like seeing a familiar face or something. Maybe there were so many choices that people were petrified and just clicked through character creation to avoid getting stuck there. Who knows?
