The Shadowlands pre-patch is here, say goodbye to tentacles and get a fresh look

World of Warcraft’s pre-patch is now live, bringing a whole bunch of changes to the game ahead of Shadowlands’ eventual launch.

There are quite a few changes for players to look forward to and get used to, from highly cosmetic options to mechanics and class changes.

On the mechanics side, everyone is getting a level squish. If the system had kept its normal trajectory, Shadowlands would have seen players hitting a level cap of 130. Having so many levels, with many of them offering nothing worthwhile besides a stat increase, just isn’t that exciting. To counter this, all level 120 characters are now level 50.

This means that health bars and damage numbers have changed too, moving away from hundreds of thousands to hundreds, which makes things a bit easier to read. I can’t help but feel my tank looks really squishy now after losing so much HP.

Several spells have been changed, and talent trees have been reset with a whole bunch of changes. Many classes will see the return of old utility abilities that were pruned in Legion, and several abilities that were talent-only have been made baseline. Better check your bars before heading into a fight, they might look pretty empty right now.

On the cosmetic side, the barbershop and the character creator now boast many more options, letting you make your character look as great as possible. The character creator has also been updated to look a lot more modern. The customisation includes new jewellery, tail and horn options, flowers in your Tauren’s hair and you can change how your Druid and Worgen forms look. Characters can also change gender at the barbershop, something that was a paid service before!

Get ready to hop in and maybe start a new allied race, especially if you hadn’t because of the reputation prerequisites, which are now gone. As long as you complete the quest chain for them, you can start that allied race character off.

Oh and did we mention corruption is gone? So long Twilight Devastation, your glorious purple path of death will be missed. At least we aren’t growing extra eyes or anything like that anymore.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
