Over the weekend, The Coalition, the guys that took over the Gears of War series, told IGN about an upcoming update for Gears 5. The update coincides with the launch of the Xbox Series X & S consoles on 10 November and will add quite a bit of content to both the campaign and multiplayer of the game.
The update will include New Game+ and will include the following:
- Two new difficulty modes (Ironman and Inconceivable)
- Character Skins for Kait, Del, and JD
- Weapon Skins
- Jack upgrades carry over
- Mutators (Big head mode, etc.)
- New achievements
The Coalition explains that New Game+ will be more of a customisable experience where you can set things up how you and your friends might like it or depending on the type of challenge you want. Ironman is a sort of One-Life mode while Inconceivable just ups the ante even more on what is already available.
In terms of multiplayer, characters won’t be tied to specific classes anymore, giving a lot more options and choice to players to play as they want. The Xbox Series X and S machines will be able to play the game at 120FPS across all multiplayer modes. It will support crossplayer between all platforms and while Xbox One players can opt-out of playing against PC, that same option isn’t available against players on the Series X.
Dave Bautista’s WWE persona, Batista, will also be making an appearance as Marcus Fenix in the game. This is an optional skin and voice-over change for the iconic character, so you don’t have to play as him if you don’t want to. Batista has already been involved with the game through a skin in multiplayer.
The update will be available for all versions of the game, so if you’re not upgrading to a new console, or playing on PC, you will still be able to enjoy the new content and changes come November 10.
