The new and highly anticipated PlayStation 5 will support PlayStation VR, but not straight out of the box. The reason for this is that the new PS5 Camera doesn’t work with PS VR, and you will need a special adapter in order for it to work.
Luckily, Sony is starting to make these adaptors available to PS VR owners through an online request form. The process involves you submitting the headset’s serial number found on the back of the processor box and some person information and they will ship it when it becomes available later this year.
Unfortunately, the form doesn’t specify a region, and when I tried using it, I was informed to contact my local supplier or distributor. We’ll try and get more information on that regarding South African availability.
It is unclear for how long such an offer will be available, and whether future PS VR headsets will come packaged with the adapter included, but that is something we will probably learn in future. I also find it very interesting that the new camera doesn’t support the tracking of the PS VR, indicating that Sony has other technologies in mind for the rumoured PSVR2 headset.
