We first heard about the Super Mario x LEGO partnership back in March. Since then, (around September for us in South Africa) we’ve actually seen the first sets in the wild. And while they look adorable, are ridiculously clever and seemingly a whole lot of fun they do cost a pretty penny. However, the sets seemed rather… well, err… “set”. They were very predetermined in what and how you could build them. The promise of creating your very own ‘real’ Super Mario World wasn’t quite realised.
However, yesterday LEGO released a trailer for the updates to the LEGO sets for next year – and while there are loads more characters, more powerups and more blocky wonder, they also introduced the Maker Set. And now, it looks like we will finally be able to create our very own ‘realistic’ versions of Worlds 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and beyond. You can check out the full trailer below – and while there’s clearly so much to look forward to, a certain green plumbing brother, is still strikingly absent.
