If you have been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer, you have probably noticed that the MP5 SMG is something of a beast. That has been changed and hopefully the MP5 will no longer be the magic weapon it was.
Treyarch had previously said to not expect any major balance tweaks until December, but this one was big enough to warrant a fix. The MP5 or Submachine Gun Alpha as it is called in the game has been nerfed. The base effective damage range has been dropped by 33%, and the recoil has been adjusted. This range adjustment brings the weapon in line with the performance of other SMGs.
This should hopefully mean that the MP5 stops beating out sniper and marksman rifle fights at longer ranges.
The change is live on all platforms, and hopefully, it is enough of a change that you won’t see the MP5 in pretty much every death cam replay.
