Lord of the Rings Online might get a visual overhaul ahead of Amazon TV show

Popular TV shows breathe life intro franchises in interesting ways. Just look at how many people are buying chess sets or playing it online thanks to The Queen’s Gambit, a popular show on Netflix.

It looks like Lord of the Rings Online wants to capitalise on Amazon’s upcoming TV show, and has a bunch of updates planned to make the game more appealing. These include “visual and technical updates” for LOTRO, both on PC and next-gen consoles.

The upgrades are planned for 2022, with the TV show aiming to air next year. The show is set in the Second Age of Middle-Earth, making it a prequel to the movies.

Amazon Game Studios is also co-developing a Lord of the Rings MMO with Athlon Games, so soon there will be more Middle-Earth MMO than you can shake a hobbit at. What do you mean I shouldn’t shake the hobbits?

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
