A few things in life are certain, death, taxes, and we will have a handful of first-person shooters to get excited of each year. The offering this year was a little bit sparse, but what we lacked in quantity, we certainly didn’t lack in quality. At the end of the day, there could only be one shooter that ripped and tore its way into our hearts.
No other shooter that came out this year really stood any chance. Few would’ve thought that DOOM Eternal could outshine it’s 2016 predecessor, but it seems like they managed to pull it off. The game is bigger and faster, with the tightest of controls and most satisfying of systems that allow you to perform the perfect dance of death as you blast your way through waves of poor hapless demons. It does this all while building on the lore and story without losing what made the original so much fun to begin with.
Runner-Up: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Honourable Mentions: Apex Legends, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty: Mobile
