Sometimes you just need to collect loot and click lots of things dead. It is a busy time for Path of Exile, thanks to the game’s latest expansion being out (Echoes of the Atlas) as well as the latest league, which has players completing rituals in exchange for favour, which is then used to get some pretty loot.
Over on Steam, the game hit a record all-time peak of 157,103 players on January 15, the day Echoes of the Atlas released. However, the number of players is probably way higher, as Path of Exile has a standalone client too.
The new Challenge League sounds like a fever dream. You get to fiddle around with how you invest points in the Atlas, letting you relive past Challenge League mechanics as you explore parallel universes. It sounds really weird and complicated, but I still don’t have my head completely around the whole story of Path of Exile, which just keeps adding mechanics and story as you go from exiled prisoner to god killer.
With Path of Exile 2 looking more and more like a 2022 release, I thought I would be giving it a break until then. But sometimes you just need to kill a million things in a world that is considerably worse than this one.
