Earlier this week, Xbox was in the news for the wrong reasons. Well, at least at first. After doubling the Xbox Live Gold year-long subscription price and receiving a huge backlash from fans, they reversed their decision and even confirmed that Free-To-Play games would soon be free to play on their service. You can read all about it here. As mentioned in that article, their about-face was more line with the positive headlines we’ve been used to in the last while – and if Tom Warren’s article on The Verge yesterday is anything to go by, it seems the good news is back up and running.
According to Warren, during a recent earnings call Microsoft revealed some really big numbers for their Xbox-related services. Not only has Game Pass hit the 18 Million subscriber mark, but “Xbox Live [now] has more than 100 million monthly active users“. We know that when it comes to statistics Sony has been in the lead for some time. However, if this growth continues and they continue to progress in this fashion – it sure does seem that the PS5 vs Xbox Series “fight” is going to be a lot closer than it was in the previous generation.
