It’s all coming up “Sonic” these days isn’t it? Just over a week ago, Netflix confirmed that an animated series ‘Sonic Prime‘ would be coming to the subscription service in 2022. And then yesterday, this tweet appeared on the official Sonic The Hedgehog (@SonicMovie) account:
Yup, it seems the Blue Blur’s iconic partner, the two-tailed helicopter twirling fox, Miles “Tails” Prower, will be a big part of the upcoming sequel to the Sonic The Hedgehog movie. As you can tell that’s about all we know for now…
However, for some context – remember this is the movie that got it’s release date pushed back because of fan outcry. Yes, after the initial images of the silver screen version of the iconic SEGA mascot reached the masses, the uproar caused the CGI team to hit the drawing board once again. And while, that probably sounds like it was an early indication that the movie would fail… as it turned out, it was kind of great! Not only did it have the biggest opening weekend of any video game movie ever – it stayed popular thanks partially to a simple premise, some great voice acting by Ben Schwartz and a surprising return to form from Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik. Plus, sadly, it also turned out to be one of the last movies we got to watch at the cinema last year.
Let’s hope the new movie will be one we can enjoy on the big screen again when April 8, 2022 comes along.
