Last year, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout took the world by storm. It was even crowned our very own SA Gamer Awards 2020: Best Multiplayer Game. Originally launching on PC and PlayStation 4, it became almost instantly popular because it was wonderfully easy to pick up and rather addictive. It helped too of course that it was available as part of August 2020’s PlayStation Plus titles. Of course, almost immediately people started to wonder if we would see the game on the other major platforms. However, everyone was rather tight-lipped.
Then, yesterday, as part of Nintendo’s Direct, it was announced that the game would be coming to the Switch with a vague ‘summer – northern hemisphere’ release window being given. And now, just hours after that news, Xbox has also confirmed that the platforming battle royale will also be coming to the Xbox One and the Xbox Series consoles. Interestingly, the same vague ‘Summer’ release-window was confirmed. Considering northern hemisphere Summer is generally accepted to be June, July and August and the game launched on the PlayStation in August – could it be that a possible one-year exclusivity deal will be expiring then? It seems rather likely.
One very noticeable omission from both Nintendo and Xbox announcements is any mention of crossplay. I’m sure we’re all hoping this will be possible. But as far as we can tell – it’s not being spoken about yet. And for any out there that are hoping to transfer the current costumes, celebrations and collected kudos & crowns from PS4 to their Xbox or Switch games – that hasn’t been mentioned either. So we’ll keep our ear to the ground for more info on those fronts.
