Development of the big Anthem overhaul has been cancelled

If you had been hoping for a happy ending to the Anthem story, with the game rising from the ashes as Anthem Next or Anthem 2.0 following a major overhaul, then I have some bad news. Development of the overhaul has officially come to a close, with BioWare focusing on developing Dragon Age and Mass Effect games.

The rework was announced in February last year, with the team looking at improving the game’s loot, long-term progression and adding to the end game.

Anthem executive producer Christian Dailey posted about the change on the BioWare blog. “In the spirit of transparency and closure we wanted to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to stop our new development work on Anthem.”

“Working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.”

“To the Anthem community, thank you for your passion and creativity. Your feedback and suggestions most certainly help shape the team’s direction, and on a personal note, your kindness and encouragement were much needed last year.”

The game will continue to operate, but this will be a bitter pill for anyone still playing the game hoping for big changes over the horizon.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
