CD Projekt is scrapping its Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer plans

If for some reason you were looking forward to seeing how Cyberpunk 2077 could be translated into a multiplayer game, we have bad news for you. In a strategy update from CD Projekt released yesterday, the company has “decided to reconsider” plans for the multiplayer.

We didn’t know much about the multiplayer except that it was going to be big, big enough to be considered a standalone product instead of just another mode for a game. Maybe it was too big, because the whole thing is being mothballed.

The strategy update says the studio is shifting its focus to bring online elements to games “where they make sense”.

“Previously we hinted that our next triple-A would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this plan. Given our new, more systematic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day. We are building an online technology that can be seamlessly integrated into development of our future games.”

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
