Niantic is the San Francisco-based software development company known for its development of a range of AR games. Chief amongst these is probably Pokémon GO, the AR game in which they partnered with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, and kind of took the world by storm a few years ago. Well, that game just keeps growing and Niantic has continued to grow. And it seems they maybe even be developing their own AR glasses – if the image above has been correctly identified.
As spotted on IGN, Niantic CEO, John Hanke, recently tweeted the image above and added:
Exciting to see the progress we’re making to enable new kinds of devices that leverage our platform…John Hanke
It will be interesting to see if and how these will be compatible with their AR games including the Pokémon GO (which up until the virtually global lockdown seemed to be growing every year). And it seems the glasses may not be their only upcoming big AR development… 5G-powered AR games have also been thrust into the spotlight. As Hanke’s account retweeted just hours ago – in the near future AR games look like they’ll be super active, magically interactive and even more social. Check out the Codename: Urban Legends demo, Niantic has released yesterday, showing off the tech below:
