Jeff Kaplan leaves Blizzard after 19 years

Jeff Kaplan, also known as Jeff from the Overwatch team, just announced that he is leaving Blizzard.

Kaplan was at Blizzard for 19 years, where he has worked on multiple games. Kaplan is well known for being the game director for Overwatch, but he was also instrumental when it came to working on World of Warcraft. He joined the team when they needed expertise on MMOs, and his time spent in EverQuest and his tinkering in map editors got the attention of Rob Pardo.

Kaplan worked on Titan, the MMO project that was eventually cancelled, and from those ashes the idea that led to Overwatch was formed and most people know the story of one of Blizzard’s biggest reveals.

Kaplan left a message on the Overwatch website, in a post where Aaron Keller is taking over the reigns as game director.

i am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years.

it was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience. i want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. but i want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me.

never accept the world as it appears to be. always dare to see it for what it could be. i hope you do the same.

gg,

jeffrey kaplan

Good luck Jeff, looking forward to seeing what you do next.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
