You no longer need Xbox Live Gold to play (some) free-to-play titles online

Microsoft has made a big change to who and when people can play certain games online on Xbox consoles. Last night the change came into effect, and so far there are over 50 free-to-play games that you can play online without subscribing to Xbox Live Gold.

Here are the games that are currently supported to work without Gold, with a promise of the list growing over time:

  • 3on3 FreeStyle
  • Aegis Wing

  • Battle Islands
  • Battle Islands: Commanders
  • Bless Unleashed
  • Brawlhalla
  • Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Crackdown

  • Warface
  • Warframe
  • World of Tanks
  • World of Warships: Legends
  • Yaris

It is a pretty good list, with titles ranging from battle royale Apex Legends through to ninjas in space with Warframe.

It might not be the biggest bit of news for people that have the subscription, but this drastically changes the reach of certain titles and the usefulness of older consoles for those who might have internet access, but not enough money for more monthly bills. Or just for those interested in giving something a try every now and then.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
