Blizzard is down 2 million players compared to last quarter

Activision Blizzard’s latest financial report shows a 7% growth in revenue year-over-year, but player numbers are down by two million.

WoW Classic and World of Warcraft Shadowlands were big money making titles, with Hearthstone bringing in case too. But the number of active players is on the drop.

Massively OP has been tracking player numbers since Q1 2018, when there were 38 million players. Now at the end of Q1 2021, that number is down to 27 million. This means hat besides losing two million Monthly Active Users in the last quarter, Blizzard has lost 11 million players in three years.

Blizzard has Diablo 2: Resurrected coming out this year and WoW players are waiting for The Burning Crusade Classic as well as more Shadowlands content. Big ticket titles like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 still have no release dates, which would probably push active monthly figures up.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
