EA is opening a new studio helmed by Shadow of Mordor exec

EA is expanding its portfolio. This time the company is launching a new studio led by Kevin Stephens, former VP of Monolith Productions.

The studio currently has no name, but it is in the Seattle area and will work on an open-world action-adventure game. At Monolith, Stephens oversaw both Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, making him a good fit for another open-world title.

Stephens will be joined by Samantha Ryan, who was formerly president of Monolith and worked with Stephens. Ryan has been working as EA senior VP and group general manager.

“Players and fans of those games are so passionate and it’s also one of my personal favourite genres. We’ve also recently had success with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and we would love to entertain more fans with similar interests,” Ryan said.

“Kevin and I both know how important it is to get the foundations of any studio ‘right’ and he’ll take his time to figure it all out. When you rush, you don’t give yourself time to be thoughtful. Why rush?”

So while there isn’t anything to announce right now, I think this is a studio to keep tabs on in the future.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
