Horizon Forbidden West’s gameplay is breathtaking

If you didn’t watch last night, take 14 minutes now and just drink deep of this Horizon Forbidden West gameplay. It is just that good. Tell your boss you are on the toilet or something, I dunno.

It starts with Aloy finding an ambushed group of Oseram soldiers. One is left, still shaky after the ordeal. He tells Aloy that Erend is still out there, scouting, and that the ambushers might find him. Apparently they have machines on their side.

Aloy goes out to find Erend and it isn’t long before she is hiding in the bushes from what looks like a mechanical velociraptor. Then she sees a person riding one, with two circling and following instructions. How are they controlling machines?

Aloy ends up running from a pack of these raptors, using her focus to see climbing and grappling points in the world around her. She can grapple to faraway points, making for some pretty fun traversal. Then she heads underwater and it just took my breath away seeing how gorgeous everything is.

Aloy ends up taming a raptor to go save Erend, and we get to see some traversal, including a cool glider, and some hand-to-hand combat as well as slick ranged combat as she takes on raiders and a massive robot that looks like a mammoth… except it has big cannons on its flanks and sends shockwaves down its tusks towards its foes.

Aloy takes the massive creature down, quickly cycling through several weapons to do the job. She shoots off a forward cannon for use, gets rid of the enemies riding on its back and slows the big machine down in some really sticky goo before exploding the powercells in the machine’s underside.

Anyways, I’m going to watch it again. It was that good. Great job, Guerrilla.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
