Playdate video Update announced for tomorrow

Since around May 2019, we’ve been keeping an eye on the quirky crank-wielding handheld console from Panic – the publisher behind Firewatch and Untitled Goose Game. It’s always super refreshing when someone tries something a little different – and when you picture what something ‘different’ might look like in terms of video game handhelds – the Playdate surely fits the bill. It was originally due to launch in 2020, but, back in November, the team announced that it had been pushed back to 2021. And now more news is on the horizon. Over the weekend, a series of tweets revealed a few more details about the Playdate and told us that more info would be coming soon in the form of a video update…

First off, we finally got confirmation of the final US pricing – $179. They also mentioned that the internal storage had been doubled to a ‘whopping’ 4GB (remember this is for a black and white basic-pixel-loving console. Season 1 of the device would also not include just 12 games but instead 24. I’m not even sure we’ll be able to easily get the Playdate here in South Africa – but I can’t help but feel excited that in a world where the PS5 and Series X exists – this funny little machine exists too. And I can’t wait to see what’s in store. If you too what to check out what Panic has to offer – tune in here tomorrow at 6 pm local time for the update.
