E3 2021: Nintendo Direct

After a few disappointing shows on Monday – there was a lot riding on Nintendo’s Direct today. And while some rumours weren’t confirmed, Nintendo still managed to surprised us and showed us once again how to deliver an E3 presentation with some great pacing, a good mix of first-party and third-party titles and several unexpected moments. You can watch the whole show below – but here’s a quick breakdown of what was shown:

And it’s Super Smash Ultimate that gets us underway with Kazuya Mishima from Tekken joining the fray….

Super Smash Ultimate – Kazuya Mishima

Not for me but for those that need all the details look for more info from Sakurai himself later this month (28 June).

Life is Strange Remastered & True Colors

Expect True Colors on the 10th of September and the Remastered collection later this year.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Check out the Square Enix show recap here for more info on this one.

Worms Rumble

Up to 32 player, cross-platform multiplayer wormy warfare in real time!

Astria Ascending

Two Point Campus

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania

The 300 stages from the three original Super Monkey Ball games are celebrated in the recreated compilation.

Mario Party Superstars

Now, who saw this one coming? Another Mario Party game? This time around you can expect 5 boards from the N64 and 100 minigames. Also, this time around, online play for all modes.

Metroid Dread

Definitely one of the biggest surprises of the show – the announcement of Metroid Dread followed confirmation that Metroid Prime 4 was still underway. Dread, however, is a brand new 2D Metroid (nearly two decades after the last one) and we have new Amiibo to look forward to. You can also check out the video below about how this new game came about.

We then got another quickfire list…

– Just Dance 2022

– Cruis’n Blast

– Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set

Mario Golf: Super Rush

We’ve seen a lot of this game already (it’s launching later this month) but today we learned that the game will be getting new updates in the form of new courses and characters in the future.

Monster Hunter Stories 2

WarioWare: Get It Together!

That’s right! It’s a chaotic, mad new WarioWare game.

Shin Megami Tensei V

Another one that’s definitely not for me…

Another quick list…

– Danganronpa Decadence

– Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water

– Doom Eternal Expansion

– Tony Hawk 1 + 2

– Rebellion

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp

Another huge surprise… Advance Wars 1 and 2 get a fully rebuilt version and launch in a cool new collection this year (just about) 3rd of December.

And the last bits were all devoted to… The Legend of Zelda.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass Wave 1 – Pulse of the Ancients

Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda

Yup, like Mario before it, Zelda gets its own Game & Watch version. This time around it includes the original The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (the Game Boy Version), and a special Game & Watch edition of Vermin. As you’d want it also has a playable clock and timer.

And of course – then the big one many were hoping for…

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel

Our first proper look at the sequel includes the news that Link will be taking to the sky this time around…

And that’s it! What did you think of Nintendo’s presentation? What was your favourite announcement? Anything you wish Nintendo had revealed? And in case you missed it – here’s the full show:
