Phil Spencer on the Steam Deck and the possibility of an Xbox app on the Switch

It’s Monday and while we get ready for another week, it’s probably also a good time to see if there was any news we missed over the weekend. And if you’re an Xbox fan, there were two bits of news coming from Phil Spencer. The first came from an interview Keith Stuart had with the Head of Xbox (which you can check out here at gamesradar.com). The whole article is worth reading, but definitely one of the highlights is when Stuart pressed Spencer regarding the possibility of an ‘Xbox app appearing on Switch’. This was his response:

You know, it’s the right question because people usually ask me about releasing one individual game or another. And what I say is I want the full Xbox experience to be something that we deliver. We have no plans to bring it to any other kind of closed platforms right now, mainly because those closed platforms don’t want something like Game Pass. There’s a ton of open platforms out there for us to grow in: the web, PC, and mobile. So all of our focus, frankly, is on those platforms

Interesting… so not ruling it out completely, but nothing coming to the Switch’s “closed system” right now. The other bit of news came directly from Spencer’s own Twitter feed. It was related to Valve’s upcoming handheld the Steam Deck. Even at the announcement, all indications were that due to its ‘open PC’ nature – xCloud would work on the Steam Deck. Game Pass on a handheld sounded like a pretty great idea – and in case there were any doubts, Spencer tweeted the following on Saturday:

Now, let’s see what the new week has in store for us…
